Advice – essential oil on a baby’s skin should first receive a carrier oil such as coconut oil or Young Living’s ‘V-6’ oil as test for sensitivity.

Consider a carrier oil combined with the following ESSENTIAL OILS : Lavender, Coriander, Bergamot, Jasmine, Geranium, or Peace and Calming oil on bottom of feet, legs, back.

Always avoid contact with eyes, ears, nose.

When in doubt, apply oils to bottom of feet.

For age 2-6 months dilute 1-2 drops essential oil with 10 ml carrier oil

for 6-12 months, 1-3 drops essential oil; for 1-4 years, 4-8 drops.

About 90% of all other company oils available are variously unsafe for babies. The poison formaldehyde preservative was previously in baby shampoos, and on October 18, 2022 another dozen shampoos for young ones and for adults (9 were Dove, others were BedHead and Tresemme) were banned from open market due to toxins levels such as benzene.

Presently the following TOXINS (as proven in court cases) are in baby/infant products : talc (used for decades until Johnson& Johnson ordered to stop production), parabens, mineral oil, propylene glycol (windshield washer), 1,4-dioxane surfactant, ethylated surfactant, triclosan, synthetic fragrance), bisphenol A (BPA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), synthetic fragrances, tributyl-tin (TBT), triclosan, formaldehyde… these are known CARCINOGENS !

The Environmental Working Group EWG reported that 82% of tested children’s commercial bath products, even those labelled “gentle” or “natural” had toxins. The EWG study of 3,300 parents found that the average child is exposed to 27 chemicals daily from body/face care products, some of which have been associated with cancer, brain and nerve system damage, allergies and hormone disruption. One study reported 287 chemicals in umbilical cord blood, 180 of them know to cause cancer in humans (EWG research)… I call it “accumulating sickness”!

The Archives Pediatric Adolescent Medicine October 2012 reported that endocrine-disrupting chemicals have adverse effects on child development and obesity.

One study of phthalates and metabolites in 163 infants found that phthalate exposure is widespread and that infant exposure to lotions, powders, and shampoos was significantly associated with increased urinary concen-trations of monoethyl phthalate, monomethyl phthalate and monoisobutyl phthalate and these associations increased with number of products used.

Phthalates have anti-virilizing effects on infants (International Journal of Andrology February 2006).

The increasing rates of childhood and adult obesity is not explained by poor diet and lack of exercise alone…. Research reveals that the increase of chemicals in human tissue is important as the influence of certain proteins on our DNA caused by chemicals make adverse effects of body weight to be inheritable! (Journal of Alternative Complementary Medicine April 2002).

These changes are termed “epigenetic” mechanisms that negatively impact our body’s metabolism, weight, hormonal functions and even carcino-genesis (development of cancer (International Journal of Molecular Science June 2018).  The medical journal Diabetes December 2009 speculated that obesity might be inherited through several generations. 

Epigenetic changes were caused by an endocrine-disrupting chemical in 4 generations of offspring and found these changes in all of them (Endocrinology December 2006). 

One study reported that 78% of babies exposed to regular shampoo and bath soap developed skin rashes from the toxins in those products (Clinical Pediatrics March 1984).

The Pediatric Journal of Endocrinology Metabolism December 2017 concluded that toxic chemicals during pre-natal and post-natal development created grave consequences for offspring.

Talcum powders carries the risk of lung injury (Proceedings Baylor University Medical Centre July 2002 and formation of ovarian cancer (Epidemiology May 2016), as attested to by court decisions against manufacturers in the order of $80 million.

The EWG 2007 found that 97% of bubble baths products, 95% of babywipes, 92% of baby shampoos, 91% of baby lotions contained harmful ingredients.

Those commercially available products contained formaldehyde, ethylene oxide, phenoxyethanol, parabens, 1,4-dioxane and methylisothiazoline having potential toxicity, especially in infants (Pediatrics February 2014).
